I am an english teacher entering my 7th year of teaching on July 30th. I am depleted of faith and emotions and I have been applying everywhere for another job. Just want to know if I should just give up and accept this depressive state of being or if i really will get a chance at change in my life. Tired of thinking i deserve a chance at something different. If this is my path then i’ll stop praying for it and use my energy on these god forsaken lesson plans.

        Felicia,
I sense that you are a very caring and giving person. Perhaps it is just the particular program that is getting you down? Would it be possible to transfer to a different grade level of students? You have the gift for teaching and a different setting could make a really big difference. The new school year is rapidly approaching, but are there still teaching vacancies that haven’t been filled? Perhaps you could negotiate a transfer?

        Best wishes,
        🙂

No. I wanted to get out of teaching for awhile. Burned out and depressed but I suppose this is my place. Crazy for thinking I could have changes in my life I guess.

              Felicia,
Our future is not set in stone. There are various different paths available and a lot depends on which path you choose. There is a possibility that you could stay working within the educational system, but you could move to an administrative position. Many school districts have positions known as “program specialists”. Teachers sometimes elect to move to a position like this for a year or so and then go back to teaching. Or they might find that they prefer the administrative duties. Normally these positions are filled prior to the beginning to the school year. If you could start this school year out and begin focusing on this possiblity– finding out what might become available– you might start to feel better about these possibilities.

Please allow yourself some time to think about this possibility and keep in touch to let us know how this new school year is going for you.

              Best wishes,
              🙂

I’ve applied for adminstrative positions at local colleges but I haven’t heard anything. I’m just very numb right now. Just in need of a change but it’s obvious it’s not gonna happen. So now I gotta try and keep the negative thoughts at bay so I don’t do anything stupid and just sleep eat wake up and repeat the same year i always have. Thanks for the support.
