Digital Disconnection

The web is a great source of information and opportunity. I'm on it now and I'm happy to be a part of this community. I don't have people in my local area which I can connect with about the topics discussed in this community. This is what makes be here important to me.

BIT IT SEEMS THAT OUT CULTURE IS GOING OVER THE DEEP END WHEN IT COMES TO TECHNOLOGY

You see parents as the playgrounds, the family diner table, and the kid's ballgames with their faces stuffed in their smartphones. People don't seems to make and keep friends nearly as much. They sit at home and live in a digital virtual realty with friendships that are shallow and really, really safe. last time I checked, the gaming industry is pulling in something like $30 billion a year. this is pathetic. What in the hell happened to good friends and good times with the family. Aren't these some of the most important moments of life worth living?

Fiona,
Welcome to the community! I totally agree about what is happening with with advanced technology being sad but true. How about meeting a couple of friends for lunch and looking forward to catching up with what they are doing-- only to have each of them spend a good deal of time chatting on their cell phones during lunch? Both not even considering that this might not be appropriate-- People are so accustomed to thinking that they must multi-task. Mentally moving on to their next activity without taking the time to concentrate or enjoy what they are doing at the time. Prior to the age of instant communication people had to plan more effectively. Like meeting someone at a certain place at a certain time. Now it seems like plans are more sketchy-- being made as we go along. Not sure I see it getting any better either!
